You don’t have to be a chicken to like eggs – and you don’t need to be a hipster to appreciate a nice craft beer. With that said, whether you prefer to wear flannel, feathers or the latest Pull & Bear collection, take note – the Poblenou Beer Festival (known in Spanish as “La Fira del Poblenou”), the most important beer fair in Barcelona, happens this July on the weekend of 1 to 3 in Rambla de Poblenou / Passeig Calvell, just 100 metres from the beautiful Bogatell Beach.

The fifth edition of the Poblenou Beer Festival will bring over 35 breweries and 10 food trucks to Barcelona. There will be plenty of things to do at the festival venue, with live music and a wide array of activities throughout the weekend.
Tastings – Taste the best artisanal and craft beers and surprise yourself with the diversity of flavours and textures.
Meet your (beer) maker – Brewers will be presenting their products and engaging with the crowd in a friendly environment. Pick their brains about the brewing process, give them your reviews or offer your suggestions.
Children – You don’t have to drink beer to have fun at the Poblenou Beer Festival. The venue will have plenty of activities dedicated to the little ones, so if you bring any kids they will enjoy the event at least as much as you.
The venue will have everything you need to spend a fun and comfortable weekend with family and friends – tables & benches for meals, glass-washers, toilets and, of course, the beach for when you feel like taking a walk in the sand or a dive in the ocean.
National Beer Championship
Barcelona is a city used to championships, but this one is a little different – beer is a part of the competition, not just the celebration. The objective of the National Beer Championship (NBC) is to distinguish the best beers produced commercially in Spain.
The 2016 edition of the NBC will take place at the Poblenou Beer Festival and will have a jury composed by members of the national and international beer community. The evaluations will involve a series of blind tastings, with the beers divided in several different categories – Lagers, british ales, IPA, black ales, classic Europeans, American sours, beers with spices, herbs or vegetables and also special styles that don’t fit in any of the other categories.

How to get there – You can easily get to the Poblenou Beer Festival by taking line 4 (yellow) on the Barcelona subway system and exiting on the Llacuna or Poblenou stops. If you’d rather take the bus, 6, 36 or H16 will get you there.

Friday, July 1 – from 4:00 PM until midnight.
Saturday, July 2 – from 10:00 AM until midnight.
Sunday, July 3 – from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM.
