The INEFC, or National Institute of Physical Education of Catalonia is a center of higher education in the city that the Generalitat de Catalunya created for “the training, specialization, and improvement of graduates in physical education and sports, and also for the scientific investigation and the spreading of their works or studies for the training.” The INEFC has been around in Barcelona since 1975 and has become quite recognized in the city for its academic training in physical education.

The INEFC is made up of two academic centers. One is located in the city center of Barcelona and the other in Lleida, which was opened a few years later in 1982. The centers are assigned to their respective universities, the University of Barcelona, and the University of Lleida. Both centers have highly qualified professors and teaching staff in several different specialties related to physical education and sports.
The institution has a total of 62,000 square meters of infrastructure, including classrooms, facilities, and laboratories between the Barcelona and Lleida campuses. The institution offers degrees in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences, double degrees in CAFE and Physiotherapy or CAFE and Primary Education, masters and postgraduate degrees, and other training programs for sports coaches and technicians. The school is also home to a number of research groups and Ph.D. students. They offer several grants and scholarships for qualifying students interested in enrollment as well as study abroad and Erasmus programs each year.
